Afia Sengupta is the primary Law Firm Administrator and Managing Director of CAT Law Office. SThrough her journey, Afia has found her calling in helping people navigate the most challenging times in their lives. She works tirelessly to help those who represent historically underrepresented or vulnerable communities.
Recently, The Marquis Who’s Who Publications Board has certified Afia as a subject of biographical record in Who’s Who in America, which catalogs individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement in their respective fields and have made significant contributions to society. She also received the ABA Military Pro Bono Project Outstanding Services award for 2022!
Afia calls New York City home now but before moving to the big apple, Afia worked in Washington DC at a prominent defense litigation firm as an Associate. She also briefly clerked for the Hon’ble Judge Robert E. Larsen at the United States District Court in Missouri. Afia has worked at law offices and organizations in several countries including Zimbabwe, the United Kingdom, Poland, and India. Some of Afia’s most notable work includes the Blackwater trial, one of the longest criminal jury trials in U.S. history.
As an investigative journalist, she believes in the fundamental right to discover the truth behind every incident. Afia also directs and produces the Current Affairs Time’s flagship podcast, Politically Social. The Politically Social podcast has garnered much attention as it creates conversation around critical social issues, including the MeToo movement in the military, New York real estate fraud, gun violence, workplace discrimination, abortion rights, gang violence, and mental health awareness.
In addition to political journalism, government investigations, and criminal defense work, Afia fights to secure constitutional and voting rights for the underprivileged and minorities. In all she does, Afia advocates for individuals and families victimized by implicit & explicit discriminatory systems, police brutality, and predatory corporations.
